Here is what you need to know!

State law requires that you obtain an Arizona driver license, within 30 days if any of the following apply:

  • You work in Arizona (other than for seasonal agricultural work).

  • You are registered to vote in Arizona.

  • You place children in school without paying the tuition rate of a nonresident.

  • You have a business with an office in Arizona that bases and operates vehicles in this state.

  • You obtain a state license or pay school tuition fees at the same rate as an Arizona resident.

  • You have a business that operates vehicles to transport goods or passengers within Arizona.

  • You remain in Arizona for a total of seven months or more during any calendar year, regardless of your permanent residence.

Out-of-state students enrolled with seven or more semester hours, are not considered Arizona residents, regardless of employment.

What documents are required?

  • A Valid Driver License from another state

  • A Birth Certificate (original or certified copy) or valid US Passport 

  • Possession of or knowledge of your Social Security number

  • Proof of residency (this is generally a utility bill or a statement from a business or a government agency)

Do you already have the Travel ID, issued by another state? You will still be required to show documents here in Arizona in order to be issued an Arizona Travel ID.

Proof of Name Change

If your name is different from your primary document, you must show legal proof of the name change. You must first change your name with the Social Security Administration (at least 24 hours prior).

Acceptable Name Change Documents:

  • Marriage License/ Certificate (Last Name)

  • Divorce Decree (Restored Last Name)

  • Court Ordered Name Change for:

    • An adult

    • A family

    • A minor child

  • Adoption Decree

-OR-

Provide two of the following documents to prove that a name change has already taken place. 

  • Driver License, ID, or Instruction Permit issued by any State or US Territory

  • Social Security Card

  • US Military Active Duty/Dependent ID Card

  • US Armed Forces Driver License

  • US Department of Veterans Affairs Card

  • Medical Insurance ID Card (including AHCCCS)

Please note: Customers cannot change their first names with these documents.
