The bonded title process

What is the Bonded Title Process?

When a person receives a vehicle that does not have a title, or the title they have was not properly filled out, there is a process that they must follow to legally obtain a title for that vehicle. This process is called the Bonded Title process, and can take several months. It consists of a thorough multi-State MVD/DMV search to track ownership history. The VIN is run through the National stolen database to ensure that it is not stolen. A level 1 inspection of the vehicle must be conducted and motor vehicle record reports must be collected. During the process, certified letters sent to all previous owners. Once the entire bond process is completed a surety bond will need to be purchased for the vehicle. The new owner is then responsible for paying title and registration fees.
